A landing door and a cabin door are not the same “elevator door”. The landing door is fixed on every floor of the building; it closes the shaft entrance. The cabin door (car door) travels with the car; it separates the passenger from the shaft. Ordering one and saying “we will look at the other later” means inventing lock-and-coupler alignment on site.
What does the landing door do?
The landing door cuts three risks: a fall when the car is away, the shaft acting as a chimney in a fire, and unauthorized access to the shaft. That is why fire rating is written on the landing door; the test standard is EN 81-58. The lock holds the leaf closed when the car is not at that floor. The door coupler is built so that it releases the lock as the cabin door approaches.

What does the cabin door do?
The cabin door closes the shaft side while the car is moving. A light curtain or mechanical safety edge detects goods or a person on close. The cabin door is not designed as a fire barrier; if a fire class is required, that is the landing door’s job. Cabin interior finish (stainless, painted) is an architectural call and can be chosen independently of the landing face.

Terms that get mixed
Signs of a mismatch: a panel on one side and a gap on the other, a lock that will not hold, a high-pitched track noise, a light curtain that trips constantly. These are not a “bad elevator”. They are a size and alignment mismatch in the door pair. Installation guides are on Documents.
